Determine Your Goal
To tune effectively you need to know what you are trying to achieve.
Clutch Engagement RPM and Peak Power
CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT RPM is critical since it allows the engine to either start where it makes power/torque or engaging below or above this rpm.
If you come in below the engine immediately has a deficit to overcome. It must gain momentum and then pull into its power range. This slight delay can be the difference between a holeshot and fighting your way through the pack.
Engaging too high can be a waste of usable power and cause excess slipping and heat in the CVT chain.
You want your clutch to engage at an rpm where it can pull and use torque to get the rear wheels moving and also maintain its forward momentum.
Power on a 2 stroke falls off rapidly after PEAK POWER is achieved, therfore you want to keep your engine at peak rpm without surpassing it, which is the magic of a CVT.
The use of a dyno can help determine these targets, but without one you will need to put in some seat time to narrow down these targets.
